Abstract

In the view of the increasing significance of global models in the simulation of future developments, the question arises as to whether the scientific basis of these models exists, that is, an adequate knowledge of longer term processes in global development and the corresponding consideration of their complex interrelationships. This question and its methodological aspects are discussed and illustrated by means of production functions that are a major factor of global models.
