Abstract

This book assesses the impact of the technical change in manufacturing on technical and economic performance and on the future application of manufacturing systems. The book describes the basic historical trends and the driving forces in the past and present, and special emphasis is put on the role of electronics, computers and information technologies. Some trends of integrated manufacturing technologies and manufacturing technologies in general are assessed. The analysis will be a background and starting point to any policy, economic impact or related studies.
