Abstract

If age-specific death rates and replacement level birth rates both remain fixed, a population that is undisturbed by migration will ultimately evolve into a stationary "zero-growth" population. This paper explores the spatial consequences of such zero growth by examining how a sudden reduction of fertility to replacement levels affects the spatial evolution of a multiregional population whose constituent regional populations experience the redistributional effects of internal migration.
