Abstract

The paper examines some of the economic aspects of the linkages between human development and environmental change, and the factors underlying unsustainable development. Part I deals with various approaches to development economics and indicators of economic development. Part II deals with sustainable development and draws an analogy between the concept of entropy (or unavailable energy) in physical science and that in economics (unavailable resources).
