Two global scenarios conceiving the development of the global energy system in the years 1980-2030 have been developed at IIASA. These global scenarios are a consistent aggregation of scenarios in seven world regions describing economic growth, energy demand and supply, as well as the economic impacts of the energy problem in each of these regions.
This paper describes the methodological tools used and outlines some global results. The applicability of the global model for areas smaller than the world regions is discussed and illustrated by two examples.
