Examples of outdoor recreation which may stress natural environment are visits to national parks, and activities in lakes such as fishing, swimming or canoeing (Murphy, 1985). Natural resources which may be relevant for recreational purposes are, among others, forests, canyons, lakes or bays (see also McConnell, 1985 for an exposition of outdoor recreation in the frame of natural resources). The definition of outdoor recreation with its dependency on natural resources means that recreational activities such as tennis or golf are of only limited relevance, because usually they do not have direct links to natural resources. date: 1987 date_type: published publisher: Springer id_number: 10.1007/978-94-009-3613-3_7 creators_browse_id: 1765 full_text_status: none series: Studies in Operational Regional Science volume: 2 number: 2 place_of_pub: Netherlands pagerange: 157-194 refereed: TRUE isbn: 978-94-009-3613-3 issn: 0924-4689 book_title: Integrated Environmental Modelling: Design and Tools coversheets_dirty: FALSE fp7_type: info:eu-repo/semantics/bookPart citation: Brouwer, Fl.
