Two regional organizations were the focal points of the geographical shift: the CMEA which lost its dominant position, and the EC which had a magnetic attraction to East European economies. Accompanying the geographical reorientation from East to the West major sectoral shifts occurred in the last three to five years. These changes are marked in Hungarian trade, the subject of this working paper.
