Conventional theories within economics and geography are discussed, and some new ideas are introduced. For example, the value of physical capital in a welfare society is now so large that it will slow down net migration. Finally, contemporary progress in research is discussed. New methods will make it possible to understand macrofeatures of interlinked processes from models using microdata. New empirical findings show decreasing net migration figures in many countries which is in accordance with theories on the relation with migration on the one hand, and the value of physical capital and/or a more stable local demand for services on the other. The post-industrial society will, against earlier predictions, have low net migration rates. date: 1995-06 date_type: published publisher: WP-95-047 iiasapubid: WP-95-047 price: 10 creators_browse_id: 2254 full_text_status: public monograph_type: working_paper place_of_pub: IIASA, Laxenburg, Austria pages: 28 coversheets_dirty: FALSE fp7_type: info:eu-repo/semantics/book citation: Oeberg, S.
