Abstract

There are many conflicting hypotheses regarding the impacts of computer integrated manufacturing technologies and especially regarding the possibilities of small and medium scale companies to adapt to current technological change. In this paper we review diffusion trends of CIM-technologies in Finland and present FMS case studies with a description of the driving forces behind their adoption as well as of their major impacts. Especially the role of small and medium scale companies is reviewed.
