Abstract

There are now about 800 FMS (flexible manufacturing systems) in the world. These systems have some Interesting technological and economic properties, which reflect technological constraints and partly also explain different applications and diffusion channels. Apart from these technological and economic factors, there exist a lot of organizational, institutional and other social factors, which also control the diffusion process of CIM-technologies, The paper analyzes some of these key factors.
