Abstract
Canada's role in global climate policy is crucial due to its significant oil and gas sectors. This study, using the MESSAGEix-Canada Integrated Assessment Model, analyzes the impact of provincial and federal policies. Results show energy system costs ranging from 5-20% of provincial GDP, with policy implementation adding 15-40%. Achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 in the oil and gas sector will cost an additional 15% of GDP. The study highlights the importance of hydrogen and innovative technologies, like CCUS and how this impacts the outcomes of the overall decarbonization landscape.
