Abstract
With recent developments in the application of mathematics and policy analysis to ecological problems, the last five years have also witnessed an increasing effort to apply systems analysis techniques to problems of pest management. Developments in this field have taken place in various parts of the world, including IIASA, where the Ecology/Environment research area has focussed attention on the management problems associated with spruce budworm in North American forests as a prototypical example.
This proceedings volume represents an international exchange of current research efforts in pest control and management. It includes presentations from The Institute of Resource Ecology; University of British Columbia, Vancouver,B.C., Canada; The Environmental Management Unit of the Department of Zoology and Applied Entomology; Imperial College of Science and Technology, Silwood Park, Ascot, U.K.; the Kochi Prefectural Institute of Agricultural and Forest Science, Division of Entomology, Japan; the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Program, U.S.A.; and the Institute of Forest and Wood, Siberian Branch of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR.
