This paper briefly describes a set of models which can be used to assist decision makers in their evaluation of scenarios to reduce the effects of acidification in Europe. The models can be used in an interactive way: the user selects an energy pathway for the 27 European countries and prescribes control strategies like low sulfur fuels and scrubbers in power plants. The model's output include deposition maps for the whole of Europe and maps indicating forest soils where the pH is below a certain specified level. A model analyzing lake acidification is in its final stage of development. The model's acronym is RAINS which stands for Regional Acidification Information and Simulation.
