AL1153 The Migration Component in Subnational Population Projections pub iis_mig iis_pop prog_pop This paper focuses on multiregional population projection methods that incorporate origin-destination-specific migration flows and illustrates some of the advantages of such methods over conventional techniques. Because a large number of different subnational projections are possible within an individual country, it is not feasible to consider here all of the combinations that might be relevant. Consequently, most of the attention is focused on a particular example of multiregional mathematical demography: the biregional urban-rural population model and its extensions. However, it should be clear that the methods described here are also applicable to more than two regions, indeed even to regions that are not regions in the geographical sense but that are states of existence, such as the states of being married or divorced, healthy or sick, employed or unemployed. 1982 published RR-83-012.
