Abstract
This volume is a compendium of risk seminars held at IIASA. It represents an attempt to increase the networking role played by the Institute. Since risk is a relatively new area of research, there is considerable variety in the way different individuals approach the subject. This has the advantage of bringing a number of viewpoints into the area from which one can begin o develop a body of evidence as well as a foundation for future studies. it also presents a challenge to researchers to consolidate relevant concepts into a paradigm enabling a body of empirical research to be undertaken that will make an impact on the worlds of science and decision. The papers in this volume present ingredients that will prove useful for future efforts in the risk field.
